Internet Explorer 7 S.U.C.K.S. !

OK… I don’t love nor hate Microsoft, but they really hit the bottom this time!

First of all, how the FUCK (excuse my French) can you build a new browser that doesn’t stick to the STANDARDS????? in a world where standards run the headlines??

Yes, that’s true. If you install IE 7 (beta 3) you will see that instead of going forward, and try to help the old version in getting closer to the standards, they break even more standards. Just go to http://www.webstandards.org/files/acid2/test.html and test IE 6 and IE 7. “Ohh my God!”…. it’s the only thing I can say.

The IE team simply woke up one morning and said “Hey… the hell with W3C standards. We’re Microsoft.. we can shit on this world, and still people buy our products!”

Imagine this: WordPress is failing to run normally in IE 7. WordPress! There’s nothing more simple like WordPress. You can’t publish anything from IE 7… some plug-ins run weird, while performing great with all the other browsers. (in the meantime, the awesome guys at WordPress seemed to fix incompatibilities)
IE 7 it’s simply stupid, and in a negative way, for the Stupid! It’s simply for those people who prefer a type-writer for a computer, and not for nostalgic reasons… But for the reasons that they have used it since the beginning and now they are afraid to change. Even though the only thing they do is Google and click, and don’t know what a right-click is. That’s why, since it comes with the Operating System, they will stick to it.
It is also Ugly and I’m not talking esthetics here. It is ugly because others become beautiful way before it did. Tabbed browsing - Windows platform had this with Opera and Firefox… Tab Preview - Firefox with plugins, Opera 9… Feed reading - Firefox, way before… Zooming - Opera, way before… Did I forget anything?

Creepy because of the ACID test, which shows no compliance at all with the standards. Read more here about the marvelous intentions of the IE team: http://news.com.com/Next+Explorer+to+fail+Acid+test/2100-1032_3-5813897.html . It is outrageous. While Opera spent one year solely on complying with the standards and bringing slight enhancements to the interface… Microsoft spent more than 2 years in bringing “huge” (actually invisible) enhancements to the interface, and broke down the tiny compliance that IE 6 had with the W3C standards.

Killer! I can only laugh and cry when I think to the future of browsing. Laugh because of the way Microsoft wants to do business in an environment where people are so good critics. In a world where the tiniest slip-ups are noticed, reported and then awaited to be fixed in no-time. Cry because I see all those visitors yelling at webdesigners because their website doesn’t show correctly in the shitty IE 7…

For Sure!

In a word: SUCKS!

PS: I’ve never lobbied for Opera or Firefox… yet Opera now rules through it’s standard compliance, and Firefox rules through it’s plug-ins. The only problem they face is memory leak. (Don’t laugh just yet… IE leaks even more! Just that it is harder to notice, due to its connection with the OS…)

IE 7 Sucks. They are looser and looser while Firefox is tight. Both internet explorer and firefox suck. In Firefox it is difficult to highlight stuff, while in explorer 7 things are worth as they have became unbeleivably loose. Try hovering over words in a layout and you will notice how the pointer changes into a darn text curser when you are not hovering over text. It’s outrageous. Atleast in Firefox there are no screw ups. Everything is just “stiff.” I hope you people understood me.

IE has always sucked. Really now. IE is used just because people got used to it. Like Windows. But it’s easier to change a damn internet browser than to change a whole operating system.

If you get my point.

IE sucks bad. The main problem is that each version seems to have different compatibility issues from the last. So re: wordpress you get things sorted out on ie7 but then it’s not sorted on ie5 or vice versa. I guess being a big company Microsoft can afford to be arrogant tho.

I can NOT believe Microsoft actually felt this was a good product to download. Their “website help” is a bigger joke. I would be happier with a working IE6. I feel Microsoft is so arragant to push out junk. Why did they have to change the appearance of all things?? It SUCKS!!!!!!!!!

If you got any of your microsoft software like office “free”, do not
attempt to “upgrade” to ie 7. Those bastards scanned my computer for “windows genuine software” and thankfully I was not able to go from ie6 to ie7. But when my computer restarted I got “error messages” running all over the place. It was like George Orwell’s book “1984″. After seeing what ie7 looked like on the web, I am happy keeping ie6. After this experience, I am probably going to decline upgrading my operating system to “Vista”. I am tired of fixing bugs and I am starting to get the creeps from some of the folks at Microsoft. Are these guys free-masons or what?

well since I downloaded the damn ie 7 they won’t honor my settings or my home pages, it always opens to a security warning and when I reset it so the damn warning won’t show, it won’t display pictures or videos or even flash on the webpages, what a bunch of crap, it’s my frigin computer, i decide about my settings and what i want to see, then i have to spend more time reseting it to the way i like it, and there it goes again, who the heck gives them the right to control what i see? they are crappers, i hate ie 7.

LOL If you are going to do a test and then winge about compliance, then do a valid test. The “Acid2″ test FAILS the W3C Validator, so is not actually a valid complaince test. So when it fails in IE7 (surprise) you claim that to be proof of compliance failure and go into rabid anti MS mode despite opening with a claim of neutrality.
You have just fallen for the PR claim that Acid2 is a valid test, without any knowledge yourself.

“One man tells a falsehood, ten repeat it as true”

Hmm… who the hell told you that you are the one who is right?

Quote from the ACID2 test web page: “Note: Some 827 people (rough estimate, contents may have settled during shipping) have written to point out that the CSS used in the test is invalid. This is deliberate, as a means of exposing the ability of user agents to handle invalid CSS properly.”

I don’t want shitty CSS properties that work in Mozilla or IE or Opera!

DO NOT DOWNGRADE from IE6 to IE7. Doing so is the move of a fool. Of course, use of any version of IE is the move of a fool.

feh.

Who gives a damn about a browsers inability to render invalid CSS?? How could a programmer possibly be expected to cope with duff input?

The thread of the article at the top was that IE7’s inability to render the ACID2 test was a mark of MS incompetence, when clearly it is not. This demolishes the article’s credability.

One can’t squeal like a stuck pig about IE7 compliance when one can’t even muster a test to prove the point.

Your linf says “…Microsoft acknowledged that IE 7 would not pass the Web Standards Project’s Acid2 test, which examines a browser’s support for W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) “, well the ACID2 test does NOT test a browsers support for W3C, it tests a browsers support for code that is NOT W3C compliant….er….slight difference ….yeah?

The test is thus pointless, and with it goes the thread of your article.

This is the second time you put a comment here, and yet you do not say why the CSS of the ACID2 test does not comply with the W3C Standard!

I will add just this:

Since Acid 2 also tests how web browsers deal with faulty code, it will fail W3C validation.
This is expected and purposefully intended by its designers.

Well simple, I go to the W3C validator service at :

http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/

and put the your quoted URL in…

http://www.webstandards.org/files/acid2/test.html

It is simply absurd to slate IE7 standards compliance by testing it with non-compliant code. I or anyone else can write a non-compliant page, run it on Opera or Firfrox and then say “oh look how terrible they are at compliance” . It is utterly meaningless.

The ACID2 test is the product of some fan boys who are desperate to try to prove their fav browser is “better” by fabricating an invalid test. They then release it to the world, and then it gets treated as “proof” of IE7 compliance failure by people who have failed to asses it objectively. I’m afraid that is what you have done…..

To repeat my proverb, “one man tells a falshood, ten repeat it as true”

neither ie7 nor firefox will allow me to collapse the upper toolbars far enough to allow me to display my yahoo pagebuilder 983 x 620 (display 1024×76 8) page perfectly so I’m sticking with ie6. When I collapse the upper toolbars in ie 6, uncheck the status bar, and resize the pages they display without any scrolling bars in a 17″ monitor. Back to i.e. 6 and netscape. Yup, I’m a dummy and only make pages for myself. I’m not going to give up one pixel of page space because a moron at microsoft moved the goalposts.

andy, read my comment! I read my case

Ohh.. another smooth move!

IE7 will appear as a HIGH SECURITY UPDATE for Windows XP, even if it is not.

You will have to install the small update (which is in fact the interface of the installation) - and then select DON’T INSTALL, or even go on the Microsoft website, search for a tool to block IE7 AutoUpdate, validate your windows, download and run it from the command line.

Or you have to edit your registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup\7.0 and add key DoNotAllowIE70 with value 1.

Andrei

Rather than doing all that, you could also just uncheck the IE7 on the Auto Update, then click close. You can then select it to not notify you of the update again. There is no reason to install an “update” you don’t want. Nobody is forcing you to install it.

Why is nobody talking about how Microsoft completely jacked Firefox, calling it “IE7″? Just watch, as fools who don’t know their Task Manager from their ass download IE7, the general population will begin to think MS invented tab browsing and Firefox ripped them off.

I haven’t been testing the AUTO UPDATE, but if you go to the Windows Update website, you cannot HIDE the IE7 Update, because it is put there as CRITICAL UPDATE.

As for the second paragraph, you are completely right - the vast majority of users will say “Bravo, Microsoft! These guys are geniuses!”

IE7 is a just bad copy of Firefox with all the problems and none of the benefits. Also IE7 changed the way my flat panel screen appears making it blurry and extemely hard on the eye. IE6 never did this. IE7’s screen magnification utility is the likely culprit. But the thing that kills IE7’s usefulness is that it is no longer customizable or user accommodating and is thus incredibly inconvenient as well as ugly in appearance. I will be using IE6 until the very last minute as well as making Firefox 2.0 the new defaukt browser whenever they get the bugs out of it.

The “geniuses” at Microsoft need to go straight back to the drawing board and start from scratch to make a user friendly, customizable, attractive web browser instead of copying Mozilla’s product and forcing it down user’s unwilling throats. If they had done their job right, people would be flocking to download it by choice, not told to download and install it as a security update. After I loaded this turd and saw what crap ot was, I had to restore my computer to a previous point to get rid of the damned thing. Now I know better and will avoid this junk at all costs.

Chris, Firefox 2 hasn’t got that many bugs - it surely doesn’t have more than IE6/IE7. I’m using it with full confidence. The only time I switch to IE is for Windows Updates and keep it as the default browser, just so that whenever there’s a link in an application, it will load in IE.

Why? because we all know that IE is half loaded by default, due to its incorporation inside the Windows OS, therefore less time to load. But most of the times, it is just - click - open - close. More or less like a preview browser.

I am so fucking beyond angry. I was one of the idiots who stuck up for Microsoft. Yes IE 6 wasn’t the best thing but at least it wasn’t a Fucking Police State. I designed a whole website for IE 6 now nothing works. The tabs on IE 7 Suck because you have to spend 3 days customizing the things just to get them to work how one would hope they should. So you figure that you click the tab and it would be just like opening a new brower window. Your home page loads and your good to go. But no it opens at blank. WTF who does that help. Now I have to go up to the address bar and enter an address. Thanks a lot fuckers. I miss IE 6 and now I can’t even get rid of IE 7 without selling my soul to Satan. FUCK!!! will Google just make an OS already so we can get out of this never ending Microsoft circle jerk. Whats worse is that when you try to tweak the security to get my page to work they won’t even let you open a new browser window without clicking the home button a second time. Lets think logically if an application(Virus, Spyware) alters your browser settings your fucked already right. Well what is Microsoft actually helping then? What are they confriming that your fucked. And whos to say that if someone can’t crack the browser settings they can’t just disable the behavior. Microsoft should have contracted McAfee, Norton, or someone to worry about security. Actually no forget it Microsoft should just hold a press conference and say the following. We would like to anounce that we have recently discovered that we here at Microsoft are duece bag mother fucking assholes. We have also discovered that we are out of touch with our customers. Our products that were once staples now suck and we were the ones who deticated ourselves to fucking up those beloved programs so that other companines could eat our market share. We would also like to anounce a strategic partnership with Google, IBM, Apple, and Sun. We have agreed to hand over our customers and they have agreed to use lube as they perform anal sex on our stock. We will play this game for a few more years until Google finishes building a better mouse trap then we will anounce that any suckers who are still using Microsoft products are basically fucked because we are announcing bankruptcy. But until that time comes we will continue to hike up the prices to our loyal customers and continue to try and block any forward progress of our competitors by buying thier companies and royally fucking them up until average joe computer user wises up and starts using products that work rather than what the jack offs at best buy and circuit city are paid to recommend.

Oh Yeah I forgot to add one more thing!

FUCK MICROSOFT :o)

:)) Although the language is tough to digest, I won’t erase your comment, Jason! - you were precisely on target, with lots of anger as additive

IE6 is a fine browser, but I just had to try IE7. I just rolled back from IE7 to IE6 because IE7 really does suck. In an effort to outdo Firefox’s sillines, Microsoft has developed a piece of crap. Those enormous tabs are really absurd and the task bars are virtually unconfigurable. It’s nice to have a decent browser back again.

But can any of your guys tell me how to make it NOT SHOW THE WARNING ‘ Your current security settings put your computer at risk. Click here to change your security settings…’ accross the top of every single web page I view.

Also it now insists on showing me a security warning page instead of my homepage when I first open IE7!

I need to allow cookies, I WANT to see pictures on websites, and flash and movies.

The really scarey thing is I make websites and what if others just leave the settings as they are and are seeing my sites differently to how I see them.

I might just have to figure out how to make it change back to IE6 cos at least I could view the web with that.

I’m presently not using this crap, so I cannot help you, Andy.

The best thing to do if you’re a website developer.. switch back to IE6, and surf the web to see how you can run IE7 as a stand-alone, so that you can see how your websites show in IE7. IE6 is still taking the largest market-share.

I am a beta tester for Microsoft, and as far as I am concerned IE7 has got to be the biggest fucking mistake ever. (Pardon my Language) Microsoft just released it as a Security download, and I installed it just to see if it got any better from the beta versions, and it did, when I turn on my computer, it boots up Slower, My games have a tendancy for some reason to freeze on me, even games I dont play online do this, and my computer always fuckin freezes up on me, its like running Windows 98 se all over again, and everyone who used 98 knows it did that quite often. Now with IE7 it does it all the time, like go figure my computer has 8 gigs of RAM in it, with an AMD Athlon 64 FX 60 processor, 2 150 gig Raptors in it, 2 BFG 7950 GT OC PCI Express Video Cards SLI’d and Windows XP x 64, and my computer freezes up with this DAMN INTERNET EXPLORER 7.

I strongly recommend anyone out there not to bother downloading this software onto there Windows XP, cause it is shit.

Oh and for those who care, I dont, Windows Vista is being released on January 30th 2007, in order to run it properly, you need a hell of a monster system.

I agree with you, Kirk!
They should have managed their “marketing” better. Worthless to say how they should have managed their “coding&concept”.

You’re right about Windows Vista as well. You need a monster of a system.
Imagine that my computer (you can see the configuration on the MY COMPUTER page) after the Vista Install, the system had only 0.6% FREE RAM (out of 1 giga). And all that for?!

I haven’t got enough information to comment on the basic stuff (the core) they built, but I don’t think the visual stuff takes so much out of the system. I don’t think that if they move the Aero appearance to Windows XP, I won’t have any RAM left after the first install. And, up til now, my experience with Vista, says it’s all about VISTA (VISUAL). I didn’t see anything else than a changed interface - which, in spite of its desire to be more user-friendly, got to be harder to use because you need to click more - and that’s it. And since that cannot eat up all my RAM… then all the things I do not interact with, must!

I told my friends that I won’t use Vista until I will buy a new computer, and it will be pre-installed.

IE7 is the worst version ever. I had to reverse engineer it to get it to the way I wanted and to do away with it’s annoyances and nuisances.
Microsoft needs to realize that it cannot do whatever the hell they want. They need to pay attention and listen to what people and do what they want, because sooner or later, sooner I think, they are going to find themselves with no customers.

IE7 is half-assed, does Microsoft think that they can make shit and people will not know it stinks?

Now I have to fix my Norton. But I went into safemode and restored my system to the date prior to updating IE7. Does anyone have any advice on whatelse to use?

Andy

I think you miss-understand the whole point of ACID2 and why it produces errors in W3C CSS parser/validator. It’s deliberate! The whole point is to throw browsers both valid and non-valid CSS, including hacks. A good implementation will be able to ignore the errors and hacks. I repeat this is deliberate on the part of ACID2!

Thanks for the clarification, Zed! I hope that now it is as clear as it was for me.

All I can see so far, and I’ve had the new 7 update for 10 minutes, is that it doesn’t look look very pretty! Or, more to the point, What the F*ck were they thinking!?! At LEAST make it user friendly from the Get-Go!!! I’ve got Pop-Up blocker crap not letting this happen and buttons hidden and blah blah blah!! Nice job once again thinking about the simple man out here……NOT!

Who knows? Maybe every clever man dealing with the GUI and UI’s usefulness got a job inside the Office 12 Project :) That’s like the only new product from Microsoft that needs applauds. I really cannot give any answer to the question “What were they thinking?”

I like some of the CSS bug fixes that were done in IE7 to make my sites render more similarly to FF. Truth be told all the common browsers have problems though. IE6 is easy to crash with certain javascripts, IE7 is very buggy and acts in an inconsistent manner when making changes to the DOM, FF2 has memory leaks that cause it to crash frequently and its quite a slow browser, FF1 is ugly no matter what skin you use, Opera and FF do funky things that can cause elements to overlap or collapse down.

In any case I can’t do my job without all these browsers. I love the InspectThis plugin for FF. I love nikhil’s web developer helper for IE, which is the absolute best tool for debugging AJAX on any browser (much better than Fiddler and LiveHttpHeaders). I love the Venkman debugger on FF (until I close it and can’t open it again). And Opera has the best error console I’ve seen, allowing error messages to be filtered by language. Plus Opera is the best looking browser out there, but suffers in the sense that stuff that works in IE6, IE7, FF1, and FF2 still don’t work with Opera without some tweeking and no one is going to pay me to support Opera so fuck it.

This is a frustrating time to be a web developer, because all browsers suck. We’ve gotten to the point where we can’t have standards compliance, because of work that was done in the past.

Why does IE freeze up all the time. I have to use program manager to close it down and then about.blank comes on as well and freezes too. Why does it do it? gets really old.

I failed to test this beforehand. My assistant loaded my new system with IE7. What a shock. The browser is like my retarded nephew who can’t do anything right. I manage Cisco Unity and Call Manager systems. Wait, correction, I _did_ manage those systems. Now that I use IE7 the web interface for setting up new phones or voice mail accounts the management pages are all completely whack. Thank you Microshaft. Your new policy of shipping Alpha versions instead of Beta is noted. Pardon me now while I try to manage my Cisco equipment via Firefox.

Internet explorer 7 sucks is the complete TRUTH! I have 5 different PCs 3 desktops and 2 laptops and the IE7 is one of the worst browsers I have used in the last 10 years. I would rather use AOL 1.0 BS browser than IE7. While using the browser it has eithered locked up, the browser for some strange closes out or stalls for long periods of time. For instance, whenever I press back space ot scroll the bar the browser vanishes and closes. microsoft creates another dead application use. IE7 is definitely D.O.A. Do not, I repeat DO NOT install this piece of crap!!

I installed ie7 and found that the toolbar area had gone to hell. So I decided to reload ie6. Well guess what, I can’t get rid of ie7 residuals. CSS generated spread sheets no longer have lines or color changes. ie7 SUCKS………

You guys heard of the IE tab? It’s an IE plugin for Firefox. It lets you run IE inside Firefox. :)

wow guys…instead of having all these problems with Microsoft and such, why don’t you just get a Mac?

All your problems and worries will go away, and instead of posting on a tech blog to rave your rants, you can set up blogs doing things you want.

Don’t know about you guys but I ain’t putting up with Microsoft bullshit anymore.

Jeezz!!! Another comment on “Mac rules, PC/Windows/Microsoft sucks”
For the record: Mac are supposed to be cool! Don’t believe the shit that they don’t crash!
The crash less often because there’s less software to install on a Mac!

Any serious programmer would know that there’s no software without a bug, thus without a crash/malfunction!

For your entertainment: watch http://youtube.com/watch?v=Wl92gFJFtjY .

Or this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHATZdeh4AM

Yes, IE7 sucks. It freezes up so often, sometimes I click the X to close it and it just freezes for 30 seconds or more. And somtimes the fricken favorites list doenst even show up. It pops up the menu, but none of my favorties are there, leading me to believe they were delted. Usually restarting IE brings back the favs, but geeze….

I hate IE7 and I hate firefox even more. Opera can also kiss my ass.

Why cant we get a browser that is decent?! Is there not a developer smart enough out there to anticipate an end-user’s desired experience on the internet?!

Ok… if you don’t like of those 3, than you’re in big trouble, Josh! :D
What else is there? Konqueror on Unix, Safari on Mac (now also on Windows)?…. Give me a break. For the time being Opera is the fastest and the most standardized, but Firefox kicks in with the plugins.
Would be great to have Opera accepting Firefox plugins! That would rock!

Opera is the fastest, but Im a javascript guru and it is soooo limited on javascript. I cant even count the times I had to fake out my code just so that it didnt screw up in Opera. Arghhh, if only I could live without a browser!

:) I like that: “IF ONLY WE COULD LIVE WITHOUT A BROWSER!”
But indeed you’re perfectly right - I also like Opera because it is so damn super-fast and also it is yet standard-follower. But debugging…. let’s be honest! :-??

Josh…maybe you should move on to Lynx or something similar….

=)))) Lynx

Hmm, I find it funny. I used to be a firefox user untill some update and it started going way too slow and freezed up on me whenever watching youtube videos…

I decided to load up Opera, Opera worked, but didnt work fine at all. It used to get stuck every 5-10 minutes, which got on my nerves, it too like the (new) firefox wasn’t that fast..

I then installed Safari, safari worked fine and was pretty reliable but it totally messed up my font and the options were pretty limited on there so then i decided HEY, IT’S TIME TO GO BACK TO MICROSOFT.

I hated IE6 because of it’s constant freezing too, but then I installed IE7, infact, it works pretty good, probably the fastest thing Ive ever used and then I started watching youtube videos again and it too started getting stuck recently… it wont work untill i re-start my laptop.

The only browser that worked fine was firefox before the update and every other browser I used has been a total nuisance, Im not a genius when it comes to computers, but if i want to do the simplest things (like watching videos) none of the browser works fine..

Des, can you tell us from what version to Firefox to which did you upgrade?
As I can read from your comment… it’s like this:

1. most probably you have some anti-virus software that is slowing down your computer — otherwise I can’t understand how a fresh new Opera (and mark my words… OPERA!!!) can get stuck every 5-10 minutes.

2. you have an addon on firefox that is maybe incompatible with the new version of Firefox, though it states that it is. I had a few that messed my Firefox, so I advise you too to disable all of them, and then enable them one by one, and see when does Firefox slow down considerably.

It’s also weird that Firefox crashed when watching YouTube… Flash problems?!

Internet Explorer is a failed product. Wondering why Firefox is better. This should be the end era of Microsoft. They all must be a drop out from school? They cannot solve the internet connection problem for users. Firefox does. What in the world!

Internet Explorer has put down the reputation of Microsoft.

IE7 is the worst piece of rubbish I ever loaded on my PC. I used to always use IE6 - couldn’t be bothered getting any other browser since none were are easy to use and as uncluttered as IE6, but then I craved of the “enhancements” in IE7. Mistake. It lasted all of a week. Now I almost exclusively use Maxthon (ocasional minor incompatibilities). (also have Firefox & Opera but Maxthon I like best).

Every time I try and use IE7 it crashes when you close a window. Junk. How can so many people have so many problems with it & MS not pick them up before it shipped?

Interesting - Just did the “Acid Test” on four different browsers. Only opera displayed it correctly. Firefox was next closet, but parts of image shifted off to the right. Then IE7, then Maxthon. Both just displayed a jumble of pixels and a red background. Maxthod also added a list box for good measure! hahaha - standards, what standards?

yeah! look at this page
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx
it even broken in microsoft owned browser (ie7)!

ihih good post man,

ie suck

It is aughful since they change to the new exployer. When you click to the next page then go back the page is now bigger than your screen. also it keeps closing as some error occurred. The tabs done work well as when I use them something happens and all the exployer windows close. I have to open seperate windows so this does not occur. John Gates you are not doing your job since you ingaged netscape and screwed them over. I want the old netscape back!
