ZoneAlarm and Internet Connection Sharing

I’ve had the chance to get into a situation where I had two computers, locally connected, one acting as a gateway to the Internet. Both of them had ZoneAlarm Pro running, set up correctly - one as a ICS/NAT client, the other as ICS/NAT gateway - yet the firewall on the gateway seemed to block access for the client to the Internet.

The solution is to add the DNS servers, that the gateway has been using, to the Trusted zone, on the gateway computer. Et Voila!

Thank you sooooo much. I’ve spent hrs trying to configure my ICS with Zonealarm. You are a lifesaver!

How do you add DNS servers? Ive been trying to solve this problem all day!!

Thanks for any helo in advance.

Ok. I got it. Go onto the client computer and then go to network connections (in START), then double click on the local are connection that youre using. then go to the support tab at the top and then go to details. The DNS server ip address will be in here.

Then go to zone alarm on both the client and the (host) gateway computer, go to the firewall tab and then onto the zones tab at the top.
Go to ADD, and then IP ADDRESS: Zone - trusted (of course), ip address - the dns ip address you found, and then description - whatever you want (eg DNS).

Remember to do this for both the client and gateway pc as i had to.

Just wanted to put this down for anyone having the same agonising problem as i had.

Thanks!

No. Thank you, John! for your ammendments.

Thanks Andrei,
Man I wish i had read this weeks ago.
I have been struggling with this for some time and of course the Zone alarm manual does not give this as a tip under troubleshooting.

Regards
Mike

All my best and may you never get into “wicked” situations!

Thanks a gazillion. I’ve been scouring half of the internet and I was just about to uninstall ZoneAlarm when I found this. It works flawlessly. Thanks alot. Woot.
