.NET Passport with Yahoo email address

If you created a .net passport (now called Live ID) with an Yahoo email address, then… if you are going to tell your MSN buddies to use the new Live Messenger and add your Yahoo account to their buddy list… you need to tell them to pay attention.

First of all, they actually have your Yahoo account/email address already in their list. Let’s say it is andrei@yahoo.com . But you are in their list as a .net passport associated with andrei@yahoo.com .

So, your first action would be to close your .net passport . Therefore no more andrei@yahoo.com on MSN.

Then they need to download the Beta Live Messenger, join the BETA programme by going to http://ideas.live.com . Install the Messenger.

They will need to delete andrei@yahoo.com from their buddy list, and then add you back again. This time, the Messenger will search the passports, no andrei@yahoo.com will be found, and the Live Messenger will consider this a Yahoo Buddy, so you will be added as andrei@yahoo.com from the Yahoo Messenger network.

A bit crazy, right?

Not just that. If you use Mac OS X with OFFICIAL msn messenger latest (not third party!) with yahoo e-mail address it will tell you you can’t sign in with that .NET passport anymore and will send you a page which you give up your long time MSN Messenger signin and merge contacts to some new issued hotmail address.

Yes, tricky ways of gaining unreliable hotmail users but not just that…

You CAN NOT logon to that Passport neccessary page as it is live.com URL and it doesn’t work with anything other than MS Windows IE latest.

So, here we are stuck with non working MSN messenger for OS X and third party apps of course “lose their minds” since they have no such capability to show that message. They simply get “Stuck”.

My post actually needs some updates!

———— Live Messenger now detects if an yahoo.com email address also has a LIVE ID correspondent, and when this happens you will have 2 users in your buddy list with the same email address, but one is on MSN/LIVE, and one on YAHOO.

The only thing your buddies need to do is to delete you (they have your LIVE ID connected with yahoo.com email address) and add you back again. Upon adding, the LIVE Messenger check YAHOO and LIVE network, and adds two users.
