"Pro-bono" lawyers

This article, nor the writer can provide any direction or help to assist you in finding any type of lawyer.

*On the eve of Xmas, I’m starting to write into a new category Good-will Ideas. This is nothing more than ideas produced by my tortured neurons when I can imagine that things could really change… if only.. And since this if only wants to be a real one, and not just day-dreaming, I mix it with business prospects.

** As a friend of mine used to do, and still does, this is from my long-term notepad with things to remember, to write about, to sleep over.

“Pro-bono” lawyers wouldn’t be something new. They are all over, except some places like Romania.

And the quotes… ohh.. the quotes. They are the trick to implement something like that.

So here goes nothing.. step by step

  1. Take 2 lawyers, and a bunch of fresh-graduates from a Law faculty. Say 10.
  2. Put them all in a house, in order to build some sort of common geekyness - eventually it will lead to an increased flow of won cases.
  3. Give them support for any type of documentation for their cases, and provide them with tech-gadgets (laptops, PDAs, etc).
  4. Give them decent salaries.
  5. Make them sign a contract that they won’t go to another lawyer company for the next 5 years. If they perform badly, and on their own will, they will lose the wage for the previous 5 months, and all access to the company’s tools. They would still get a reference letter according to their qualities and skills.
  6. Advertise wherever possible that you are willing to represent all sorts of people in court, as long as their case fights an injustice. Most people will be asking for different types of prejudices, but would not be able to hire a good lawyer.
  7. Establish a rule in the contract you have with the clients that you will have access to 75% of the won prejudices.

PS: if I/you have amendments, I won’t hesitate to add them

Where is the Justice for the average American?

This is a true story, and, I need your help!

I am in desperate need of legal representation for a crime that I have been accused of. I have no money to pay for a competent defense, and, I strongly believe that if I don’t have a competent attorney, I will certainly be convicted of this crime thus, ruining my life and reputation. I have no means to pay for an attorney but, I need an attorney that will have my bet interest at heart.

A conviction will take me away from my family who really needs me as I am the primary care giver. I am currently awaiting extradition from Michigan to New Mexico on 2 felony counts of embezzlement. I have a wife and 2 small children, which my wife and daughter are disabled. I love them all so deeply and this nightmare could rip the last sane thing in my life from me. I know my problem is not your problem, but, I thought if I asked the right group of people and given the nature of this case it could make a difference in obtaining competent legal help.

I have never been in trouble with the law and I have not even recorded a parking offense or any moving violations. I have no prior convictions and I have never been arrested for anything. I am a working professional educated with formal education and many years as a working adult. I served 10 years in the United States Army where I achieved many medals, citations, and awards. I also worked for State Government in New Mexico for a total of 19+ years.

I wanted to explain the circumstances of my case to someone in hopes that I could obtain competent legal representation for criminal charges that have been brought against me. I was employed with State Government Highway and Transportation Department at the time. I worked for an individual that was appointed in the organization through the political process that often happens in State Government. When this incompetent person came in, that’s when the work environment took a turn for the worst. He was on a mission to get rid of most of the current staff and reward his friends and distant family with those jobs.

I attended a class in Chicago, Ill. and I went to the class in May of 2006. I requested Mileage for the trip because I was going to take my family with me, and, it was an opportunity to see my family in Michigan. I received 50% of the trip cost to help pay for fuel and meals along the way. I was taking my RV so that we could all go, and we could eat, sleep, and have somewhere to stay while I attend the class. This is an approved practice to attend any classes. I also took some leave in conjunction with the travel time. My plan was to drive to Michigan visit for a while and drive to the class in Chicago, Ill. to attend the 3 day class. I had some mechanical issues with my RV along the way and made it to Michigan. The heater and water pump had forced us to stay in a few hotels along the way. We made it to Michigan got the RV in the shop and my father drove me from Michigan to Chicago for the remaining time of the class.

The class was being held at a hotel on Lakeshore drive in Chicago, Ill. I made it to the class on Tuesday morning with my father where we got breakfast and attended the class all of that day. My father also came in and sat in on the class at various times. I signed in on a few mailing lists got my materials and settled in on the class.

The class wrapped up on Wednesday and we both returned back to Michigan on Thursday morning. I was expecting to take some additional time off and visit with family and then get back to New Mexico. I also made various call from the hotel at the seminar and spoke to my secretary and mentioned to her that I had some mechanical problems with my RV and I would be back in the office a few days later than planed while the repairs and parts we ordered and we could make the drive to New Mexico She indicated she would inform my manager via voice and e-mail.

I returned to New Mexico and went back to work the following morning. I made a call to my Manager and He said he needed to see me at 3:00 p.m. same day. I walked in he handed me a letter placing me on administrative leave pending an internal investigation for my attendance in Chicago. He asked if I had anything to say I replied no and I was told to leave the property until I was contacted.

One week passed, two weeks, passed, and three weeks passed, and it was clear that my manager was really out to cause serious issues. After thinking long and hard I resigned my position in Government and submitted my letter of resignation. I honestly wrote a factual letter about this manager’s conduct, qualifications, troubled past, current dealings with the staff and what I could see what he was doing to me. I resigned after all that time in Government. I had no job, no benefits and no insurance. I sold our home and decided to move back to Michigan.

I got to Michigan and apparently this Manager decided that he would push this matter further and had someone contact the New Mexico Law Enforcement. The NM State police called me repeatedly attempting to investigate the allegations. They also spoke to my wife and indicated that she was involved too.
I was uncertain about what I should say and not say. I said nothing. The DA’s office wrote me a letter proposing I plead guilty and pay restitution and this would fall off my record in time. I felt as though I did nothing wrong and, I would not plead to something I did not do. I was advised that this matter would be brought in front of the Grand Jury. I heard nothing for almost a year.

On 10/26/07 at 9:00P.M. I was served a warrant and arrested with the offense of “Fugitive from Justice”. I am currently out on bond pending a extradition. I informed my employer and I feel that my job may be lost because of the charge pending against me. Sure enough, my employer created a drama which I ended up loosing my job.

I need help; I am not sure how to proceed. I am sure that I will be extradited after the hearing and locked up in New Mexico. Who is going take care of my family? My job that provides benefits has been lost.
